Dusty's Diner was my first original jazz tune, named for my cat and his constant begging for extra food (and my family's tendency to give in to it!). Having its start as a lead sheet written for my jazz arranging class, it quickly morphed into the tune that would close the first half of my senior composition recital. Using a modified 12-bar blues progression and an AABA form, the tune features a highly active melody and somewhat angular lines to keep the chart driving forward. This arrangement makes use of adaptable scoring for maximum part flexibility and minimal hassle.
