Thoughtstream was my first dive into the realm of minimal music. The piece starts with a single idea from the soprano saxophone that eventually grows into a whole flurry of carefully interlocked musical ideas. With the antiphonal placement of the players, the melodies will often sound like they're "switching" between the two groups, creating a highly unique soundscape reminiscent of a constant flow of ideas.

"The first time I heard a composition by Shawn Lee, I was impressed by the complexity achieved in combining pre-existing motives and melodies in a comprehensible, yet authentically fresh way...His post-minimal saxophone octet composition is a wonderful work for an advanced high school or young college group."
