The COVID-19 pandemic started like any other epidemic; it was reported in a far-off country, and people who weren't living in that part of the world thought it would remain relatively contained as many epidemics tend to be. Within three months, it slowly marched its way from the outside world into the daily lives of just about anyone on any part of the planet. This piece, with its largely free-interpretative structure and graphic notation, can be just as unpredictable to both perform and listen to as new developments with the pandemic are. In addition to the pandemic's spread around the globe, the title refers to the structure of the piece, as described in the performance instructions on the score;

  1. Start from any of the A's

  2. Work gradually towards the center

  3. Repeat B indefinitely, fade out OR stop in unison at will of the ensemble leader

*meanings of symbols are at performers' discretion

This piece serves as a great practical introduction into the world of graphically notated music for ensembles of any age, and is sure to get the creative juices flowing within the players. Due to the freer nature of the piece, it is also suitable for live online rehearsals and/or performances.
